LAVAGNINO 2016
REGULATIONS
art. 1
The Classical Orchestra of Alessandria with the support of Fondazione
Live Piemonte dal Vivo and the cooperation of RTI-Mediaset
and Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome,
in memory of A.F. Lavagnino, has set up the 10th edition of the
International Composition Contest “LAVAGNINO 2016”.
art. 2
The contest will take place in Gavi (AL) with preliminary selections
and final evening of the prize-giving; the performance in
a public concert of the winning compositions will be on Saturday
29h October 2016 at 21, within the 16th edition of the International
Festival A. F. Lavagnino “Music and Cinema”.

Composers of any age and country can take part in the competition.

Luis Bacalov - President (Composer - ex Teacher of composition
of Film Music at the Academy Chigiana of Siena, Oscar for the
soundtrack of “Il postino”, Premio Nino Rota, Nastro d’Argento,
David di Donatello, Globo d’Oro, BAFTA Award)
Franco Piersanti (Composer - 3 David di Donatello, Premio
Nino Rota, Ciak d’oro, Grolla d’oro, Nastro d’argento)
Alberto Barbera (Director of Museo Nazionale del Cinema in
Turin, Director Mostra del Cinema in Venice)
Luigi Giachino (Composer - Teacher at the “Nicolò Paganini”
Conservatory of Genoa)
Paolo Paltrinieri (Responsible for musical productions Direction
Music Division RTI-Mediaset)
Federico Savina (Teacher of Sound at Centro Sperimentale di
Cinematografia in Rome)
Fabio Frizzi (Composer of sound tracks)
Angela Colombo (Pianist, Director of “Antonio Vivaldi” Conservatory
of Alessandria)
Luciano Girardengo (Cellist - Artistic Director of the contest) The jury can also indicate, with a special mention, other candidate
plays of particular value.

All competitors should apply using the following
FORM and copy of entrance fee of €

art. 6
The competitors will have to realize the background music for
a cinema sequence of about 4-5 minutes; there is a choice of
four which will be sent to composers by e-mail, on Thursday
4th August 2016.
Competitors’ works have to be received according to the following
way:

The receiving deadline will be Tuesday 11th October 2016.
art. 7
The works must be realized with the following maximum instrumental
group:
two violins, one viola, one cello, one double bass, piano (or keyboards),
a multi-instrumentalist (clarinet in B flat, soprano sax,
accordeon), percussions (drums, basque tambourine, maracas,
shaker, 3 crash cymbals, rainstick, wind chimes, triangle).
Composers have to send:
- a file audio-video (art. 6) with the complete work, played with
acoustic or virtual instruments, synchronised with the chosen
cinema sequence
- audio file (AIFF, Wave), if used, for orchestral integration
(VST) or for special electronic effects.
- full clear and legible score undersigned:
a) score (with the possible audio file parts);
b) the staccatos for an hypothetical correct live performance

The winners will receive the following prizes:
Prize “LAVAGNINO 2016” consisting in:
Plaque
Diploma
Education grant of € 1.300,00
Engagement in the staff of composers working for RTI-Mediaset
musical productions
Sharing the making of the soundtrack of a Short Film
produced by the Educational Section of the Centro
Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, in collaboration
with the Director and the sound Engineer, furthermore free
consultation of the Musics of the Library “Luigi Chiarini”,
containing scribbling pads and orchestra scores of the
soundtracks of more that 80 compositors.
2nd prize consisting in:
plaque, diploma and education grant of € 800,00.
3rd prize consisting in:
plaque, diploma and education grant of € 600,00.
4th prize and 5th prize consisting in:
plaque and diploma.
The winners will be then pointed out to Festivals and Production
Agencies.
art. 9
The entry to the contest involves the unreserved acceptance of
these regulations.
art. 10
For any dispute bear witness to the Italian text and the case
would fall within the jurisdiction of Alessandria courts.
